9. Action Plan for Tickets

Offered flexible ticket packages- Packages such as mini-plans and group options appeal to various budgets and preferences and lead to increased ticket sales.

Several NBA teams offer personalized ticket plans. In each case, they allow fans to choose a specific number of games and seating options. These plans fit their budget and game preferences. Examples of these plans are:

  • The Utah Jazz: "Pick-Your-Plan" package

  • The Brooklyn Nets: "Flex Plan" package

  • The Minnesota Timberwolves: "Half-Season Plan"

  • The New Orleans Pelicans: "Mini-Plan" package

  • The Memphis Grizzlies: "Group Ticket" package

Let's take a deeper look at one of these offerings. The Brooklyn Nets organization understands that fans have different schedules and commitments, so they offer the Flex Plan package to provide flexibility and convenience. The Flex Plan allows fans to customize their game attendance based on their preferences and availability. Here are the details of The Brooklyn Nets Flex Plan package:

Flexibility in Game Selection: The Flex Plan allows fans to choose a specific number of games from the Brooklyn Nets' regular-season schedule. Fans can select the games that align with their schedule, ensuring they don't miss out on the action. This flexibility is ideal for individuals with busy lifestyles or those who want the freedom to attend games on their terms.

Seating Options: Fans opting for the Flex Plan have access to various seating options. Depending on availability, fans can choose from a range of seating categories, including lower-level, upper-level, and premium seating areas. This ensures that fans can enjoy the games from seats that suit their preferences and budget.

Exclusive Benefits: The Flex Plan package offers fans exclusive benefits and perks. These may include priority access to playoff tickets, discounts on team merchandise, invitations to special events, and opportunities to participate in unique experiences such as meet-and-greets with players or access to pre-game warm-ups. These benefits enhance the fan experience and add value to Flex Plan holders.

Ticket Exchange and Transfer: The Brooklyn Nets understand that plans can change unexpectedly. To accommodate this, the Flex Plan allows fans to exchange tickets for different games within the regular season, subject to availability. This feature ensures fans can still attend games even if their original plans change. Fans can also transfer tickets to friends, family, or colleagues, allowing them to share the excitement of a Brooklyn Nets game.

The Flex Plan package offered by the Brooklyn Nets is designed to allow fans to attend games based on their individual preferences and schedules. With a range of seating options and exclusive benefits, fans can tailor their game-day experience to suit their needs. Additionally, the ticket exchange and transfer options and dedicated customer service add convenience and peace of mind for Flex Plan holders.

Ticket sales strategies don't always work.  Here are a few examples of strategies or campaigns for NBA teams that were terrible failures and bad ideas.

The Orlando Magic implemented a "Pay-Per-Win" ticket pricing model, where the price of tickets would increase or decrease depending on the team's win-loss record. This strategy failed because it did not consider other factors that influence ticket sales, such as the team's performance, the opposing team, or the day of the week.

The Sacramento Kings attempted to increase ticket sales by offering a "Winning Ticket" promotion, where a randomly selected ticket holder would win a cash prize if the team won the game. This strategy failed because it did not consider that many fans would only attend games they believed the team would win, which would not help increase overall attendance.

The Washington Wizards implemented a "Dynamic Pricing" strategy, where the price of tickets would fluctuate based on demand and the opposing team. This strategy failed because it did not consider that many fans plan and budget for games in advance, and the constant changes in pricing made it difficult for them to plan and budget accordingly.

The New York Knicks attempted to increase ticket sales by offering a "Loyalty Points" program, where fans would earn points for attending games and redeem them for perks and discounts. This strategy failed because it did not consider that many fans attend games for the love of the team and the experience, not for the prospect of earning loyalty points.

The Chicago Bulls attempted to increase ticket sales by offering a "Summer Special" promotion, where fans would get discounted tickets for games in the upcoming season if they purchased them during the summer. This strategy was a failure because it did not take into account that many fans made their decision to attend games closer to the date of the game, and the promotion did not offer enough incentive for them to purchase tickets months in advance.
