I am doing some informal research to see who is able to join DECA in various states. As an example; in VA only students signed up for a state marketing education course are allowed to join. How is it done in your state? Are there any limitations? Is it open to everyone who has interest in marketing?
Thank you for your help.
In Massachusetts, students have to be in or at least taken a Marketing course (half year classes helped the "in-house alumni" become an option). I do not believe National DECA has a restriction but in order to protect Business education teachers who are always on the budget cutting block, we need this to ensure class enrollment numbers.
In Utah there does nort appear to be any formal rule. At the very least, I know students not enrolled in Marketing classes are allowed to join. Personally, I like the way it was described for Virginia.
In OK since marketing courses are very few in number, they allow any student taking business courses to join DECA as well as BPA.
