Connect to Local Audience on Pinterest

This article on Social Media Examiner provides a few keys to making a connection with your local audience by using Pinterest.

Add Geographic Information to Your Profile
Sometimes, while focusing on creating a keyword rich profile (which is good) the location of the business is left out.  Not only will this also help with a search, but it will also let a customer decide if you are close enough to do business.

Your location may simply be the name of a town or city, or it may be broader and include a region or more.  It depends on how you would define a reasonable trade area.

Optimize Your Boards and Pins for Local Searches
Remember that pins, boards and profiles can all be indexed for search by Google.  As a result, you will want to include the name (names) associated with your location on several boards.

Add your location to your boards, board descriptions, and pin descriptions whenever it makes sense.  Remember to keep in mind how you think people might search for you. If you are in the small town of Kaysville, Utah, you will want to make sure you turn up in searches that include Northern Utah and Salt Lake City.

Repin and Engage With Fellow Local Businesses
Take some time to identify boards of your customers, partners or other people or places related to your business.  Visit them often and follow them. Also, repin and comment with warranted.  Hopefully, they will return the favor and get your boards out in front of new potential customers.

Build a Resource-Themed Board
You may consider creating a board that will be of use to people looking to come to your area.  Don’t overtly promote your business, instead feature restaurants, lodging, places of interest, tourist attractions, etc.  Make your board the ”go to” place for those visiting the area.

Create Your Own Place Board
Place pins were intended to help people plan a trip.  Why not use them to bring new visitors to your site? Since they show up on local maps, they also have value as part of search results.

Target Promoted Pins to a Geographic Area
In the US you can target a promoted pin to a particular geographic area.  While you can target your local area, it might be to your advantage to target areas where your customers live.  If you have a ”destination business such as a ski resort or hotel, this may be particularly helpful.
