17. Was The Night A Success?

Was The Night A Success?

After the event is over, it is time to catch your breath and look back at the success of your evening. If you set goals, and you should have, those goals will provide one easy way off measuring success.

Did you meet or exceed your goals in terms of attendance and sponsorship sales? These are pretty objective, and you can determine without questions whether or not you achieved your goals.

Other types of measurement are not so objective. For instance, did the fans have fun? Did the team appreciate your efforts? Did your sports marketing program get some positive publicity? Did you get the media coverage you wanted? Did the night “run smoothly?” Were your sponsors pleased?

There are a lot of things to consider when determining how successful your event was. However, keep this in mind: if this was your first effort, and you survived, you did great. The important thing is to take your efforts and fine-tune them for the following year. I have found that the real key is to improve the event each year.

Finally, and these are the questions that really matter, did you learn something, and did you have fun?

In the end, that is pretty much all that matters. You should have learned a great deal about sports marketing and event management. Equally important, you should have had a good time.

As the slogan for the St. Paul Saints says . . . FUN IS GOOD! I hope you had fun with this project, and that you will make next year even better!
