Set Date After Conferring with Coaches

The Tip-Off will be different from college in that the basketball team is not selected until after tryouts. As a result, you can be more flexible with the date. It is a given that the Tip-Off should take place before any games are played. An "introduction" loses some of its luster when the fans have already watched a game.

Deciding what night of the week your event should be held is a challenge and will be different for every school. Will Friday or Saturday be best because everyone will choose your event as the entertainment for the night? Are you better off with a week-night because students will not give up their Friday or Saturday events or because they will have to work? A little "quick and dirty" market research might help. Talk with other students and see what they think.

Another consideration is the time of the event. Unless you live in a very unique community, the chance of having an actual "midnight" event is rather slim. The best-case scenario is to have the event as late as possible to make it appear to be different from "just another game."

Since your Tip-Off will likely last between an hour and an hour and a half, set the starting time accordingly. You might be able to get things rolling at 9:00 or even 10:00 PM. If not, don't worry.
