Have Some Fun!

Musical Chairs

Here's What the Event is Like
Like the original musical chairs, the key is to be the last contestant sitting on a chair.

Guidelines for Running the Event
Contestants are seated in chairs placed in a circle at mid-court. Each individual has a basketball. The music begins playing, and the contestants wait for the song to stop. When the music stops, they race down the court to make a basket. After making a basket, they run back to the chairs. Since one chair is removed every time the music stops, one contestant will be left standing and eliminated.

Select 8-10 contestants. It is best to have a variety of contestants in terms of age, gender, and athletic ability. Be sure to warn your contestants not to purposely interfere with another contestant and not get overly rough. Be warned, this can get out of control if you do not prepare your contestants properly.

A good emcee with a sense of humor can add a great deal to this event, as can the music selection. One option is to play one song during the entire event. Another option is to play a different song each time the music begins.

The person in charge of the music can control the time necessary to run the event. You can adjust how long music is played to either speed up the event or make it last longer.

A Few Words about Prizes and Sponsors
As far as prizes are concerned, there are several options. One successful approach is to have each fan wear a t-shirt from the sponsor. This provides excellent visibility for the sponsor, and the t-shirts can serve as prizes for all participants. The winner should receive an additional bonus in addition to the t-shirt.

A natural tie-in would be a music/CD store, electronics equipment, a radio station, etc. However, do not feel a need to create a "natural tie-in" if you have other potential partners willing to work with you. As in each of the Fan Fun events, the "grand prize" should be worth at least $50.00 if at all possible.
